Most entries in it refer to the privateering activities and shipboard life of the vessels on which Zuriel Waterman served, but entries were also written when the author was at home between voyages. When cruising, the author often made note of latitude and longitude and the names of various vessels, foreign and native, encountered while at sea. There are detailed descriptions of ports visited and close encounters with enemy ships.
